2023 marks the 150th anniversary of the George H. Clayson House, home of Palatine Historical Society. An entire year of celebration is planned – see below for details or contact us at 847-991-6460 or claysonhouse@palatineparks.org.

October 18: Palatine Historical Society Member Meeting & Presentation
“The Lake Michigan Triangle” – chilling stories of events on and around the shoreline of Lake Michigan
Gayle Soucek is a historian, author, and storyteller.  She will share stories of mysterious disappearances and other haunting tales in the area known as the “Lake Michigan Triangle.” Be prepared for goosebumps and racing hearts. This event is a perfect lead-in to Halloween! Note the start time for this meeting and presentation is 6:30pm. Registration will be available starting October 4 at palatinelibrary.org.

October 21: Fall Foliage Tour
Sign up will be available soon to enjoy tours of historical locations throughout downtown Palatine with the beautiful colors of fall as our backdrop.

December 3: Holiday Open House at Clayson House
Our year of celebration will wrap up with a free Open House at the Clayson House. Stop by to enjoy the spirit of the season as the house is decked out with a variety of decorations from the collection.

Stop by the Village at 200 E. Wood Street to view a display of historic photos from our collection.

May 17: General Membership Meeting and Historical Society Presentation: The History of the Palatine Fire Department, 7:00pm
Don’t miss this presentation as members of the Palatine Fire Department and Palatine Historical Society share the story of the Ben Franklin Fire and other events. Semi-annual meetings and informational presentations are held at Palatine Public Library at 700 N. North Court, Palatine. These events are free, but registration is required and will be available beginning May 3 at palatinelibrary.org.

June 17: Flag Day Ceremony, 9:30am
Come on out to celebrate Flag Day as a variety of area organizations gather at Clayson House for a special ceremonial event.

June 17: Good Old Summertime Party, Noon-4:00pm
This is the biggest event of our anniversary year! Come to Clayson House and step back in time to celebrate summertime the way they did back in the 1860’s! This free event includes demonstrations and more. The day will also include two Tree Dedication Ceremonies: one celebrating the life of longtime Historical Society volunteer and Board Member Denise Limburg and one to celebrate the Clayson House’s 150th anniversary.

June 25: Palatine House & Garden Walk, Noon-4:00pm
Come explore the historic beauty and charm of downtown Palatine! This guided walk will lead you to some of our village’s most treasured homes and gardens, including a tour of the iconic Patten House. Tickets are $30 in advance and can be purchased at palatinehistoricalsociety.ticketleap.com.
